Message from the Principal

Happy New Year to everyone!  We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday with time to spend with friends and family.  We’ve been spared the worst of the winter weather to this point but we’ll see what the new year brings. With that in mind, inclement weather information is, once again, included below.

The elective program is scheduled to start  on Friday, January 17th., continuing through to February14th, with a break on January 31st, which is a PA Day; however, with ETFO moving to Phase 3 of their work to rule, teachers may be unable to participate.  Our hope is that the electives will be able to run but we will be making a week by week decision.  Notification will be sent home through Schoolmessenger by no later than Wednesday each week.  Thank you to Mr. Dawson and Miss. McCarl for all of their work in organizing these special days for our students.  Thank you as well to all staff for their commitment, contributions and flexibility in making these days possible.  We hope we will be able to proceed.

In spite of the weather that forced postponement of the Christmas Concert, the event went wonderfully.  The students performed with great energy and musicality, being well-prepared  by all the teachers involved.  Special thanks to Mr.  Corriveau, once again, for running an amazing music program here at Osprey and for the extra time and energy given to this special event.

A reminder to all families as we move into a new year that we continue to be a Peanut Free School.  Please remember, when preparing lunches and snacks, that we are a peanut free environment.

Our grade 6 students will hopefully be heading to the Bluewater Outdoor Education Centre , accompanied by Mr. Dawson and a few brave volunteers, from January 27th to 29th.  The students will engage in outdoor and environmental educational experiences designed to plant the seeds of curiosity and grow students who value and understand our connection to nature and make wise decisions for our planet.  Once again, a decision on whether this can go ahead will be sent to parents through Schoolmessenger.

Remember that if your child will be absent from school it is important to call (519-2341 x 100) to leave a message.  Please note the reason for the absence, your child’s teacher and the dates of the absence.

If your child is arriving late to school, please come to the office to sign them in.

If you are picking up your child from the school, please send a note in the morning or call the office at 519-922-2341 x 521.  Calls that require bus changes should be made prior to 2:00 p.m.

You must come to the office to sign out your child if you are picking them up before the end of the day.  Pre-arranged pickups , at the end of the day, will continue to be at the side door, across from the portables.

Thank you to Tupling Farms for their continued generous potato donations for the Osprey Potato Fundraiser.  The funds raised lower the costs for  the year end trip to Niagara Falls and was a huge success.

Our next Parent Council meeting will be on the morning of January 30th, beginning at 9:30, in the staff room.
